Phill Mashabane

Mashabane Rose and Associates / Principal and Owner

In 1995 Phill Mashabane co-founded Mashabane Rose Associates, a dynamic South African architectural and design studio. 

With over 30 years in the industry and many awards under his belt, Phill Mashabane has acquired expertise in the fields of Master planning; Urban Design and Development Planning; Architecture;  Museum design; Storyline Development and Exhibit Design; Interior Architecture; and Heritage and  Conservation.

Phill Mashabane has contributed to a broad variety of prestigious projects over a thirty-year career. He has managed projects in the Residential, Commercial, Retail, Mining, Medical, Public Buildings, and Education sectors throughout South Africa and Africa.  

Phill Mashabane has been an external examiner in a number of tertiary institutions in South Africa and in the  African continent covering amongst others areas of Professional Practice. Phill’s intervention in the built  environment has led him to be invited also as a: 

  • Heritage and Conservation Tribunals 
  • Architecture Dispute Resolution Tribunals 
  • Jury Member on various Architecture Competitions including being nominated and appointed to  serve as an Ambassador for Africa Architecture Awards 
  • Phill Mashabane is also a skilled Facilitator, Negotiator and Commercial & Construction  Arbitrator.  

In 2016, Phill was recognized for the contribution he made to the South African Professional Services  Industry and was the recipient of a Lifetime Achievement award for excellence in the field of  Architecture.

In 2019 Phill successfully completed Harvard Law School’s Program on Negotiation and Leadership, and What You Can Learn from the World of Diplomacy.

  • Chairperson and member of Gauteng Province MEC’s Independent Tribunal for appeals
  • Former President of the South African Council for the Architectural Profession 
  • Practicing Architect and Cultural Heritage Specialist
