Serhii Makhno

MAKHNO Studio / Founder and Owner

Serhii Makhno is a Ukrainian artist, ceramicist-sculptor, architect, designer, art patron, and collector. Born on May 21, 1981, in Kyiv, he graduated from the Kyiv National University of Construction and Architecture with a degree in Architectural Environment Design. In 2003, he founded MAKHNO Studio – an international studio of contemporary ceramics, design and architecture.

Under his leadership, MAKHNO Studio has completed over 600 unique projects in 25 countries. By blending Ukrainian authenticity with contemporary art, naturalness, and futurism – the studio has gained international recognition. Over the years, MAKHNO Studio has earned numerous prestigious awards, including The Architecture MasterPrize, IIDA Awards, Restaurant & Bar Design Awards, SBID Awards, and Red Dot Design Awards.

Serhii Makhno also has made significant contributions to the world of art, particularly ceramics. The studio operates a ceramics workshop that embodies the Japanese wabi-sabi aesthetic and philosophy. His art objects have been recognized globally: in 2017, he received the Red Dot Design Award for his ceramic tiles and again in 2024 for innovative clay blocks. And the KHMARA ceramic lamp won the Grand Prix at the Big See Interior Design Awards in 2021.

His designs have been exhibited at Salone del Mobile in Milan, Paris Design Week, Dutch Design Week, Galerie 5 in Singapore, Gallery G-77 in Kyoto, and Les Ateliers Courbet Gallery in New York. Serhii is also a jury member of the Dezeen Awards, International Architecture & Design Awards, Architecture MasterPrize, and others.
