Ross Barney

Tumu Studio / Architect + Founder

Ross Barney is a founding partner of Tumu Studio.  A graduate of the Pratt Institute and a licensed architect, he has practiced architecture for over 20 years across regional and international contexts. His experience spans a wide range of project types, including residential, restaurants, high-rise, mass transit, hospitality, religious centers, schools, offices, civic spaces, and large-scale master planning. He has served as project architect on multiple award-winning projects and has led teams of varying sizes through all phases of design and construction.

At Tumu, Ross oversees the design and execution of the studio’s work. His attention to detail supports the delivery of thoughtful, well-crafted projects that respond carefully to both client needs and context. He brings a strong commitment to environmental responsibility, integrating sustainable strategies into each project to create architecture that is both high performing and enduring.

In parallel with practice, Ross has been engaged in architectural education since 2007. He has taught at the IIT School of Architecture and currently teaches at the University of Colorado Boulder, where he has lead design studios for the ENVD Architecture program since 2022.
